On Friday the 31st of March, 2017, Pillar Healthcare lost a dear, dear friend and a most trusted advisor.
It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce that, Dr. David Smallbone, M.B., Ch.B., L.R.C.P., M.R.C.S., M.F. Hom., F.C.O.H., passed away late that evening.
Dr. Smallbone was the ultimate professional. Throughout his long and decorated career, he devoted himself to identifying and understanding the best ways to treat all those that came before him.
He had a deep passion and love for helping people and making them feel better, either through his vast array of medical knowledge, or as a friend, over a cup of coffee. His career is too long and distinguished to list in detail here, but all those who were treated by him or spoke to him realised they were in the presence of greatness.
The word ‘unique’ can be overused but in its raw definition, there is no better way to describe Dr. Smallbone – being the only one of his kind; unlike anyone else.
From my experience with Dr. Smallbone, I have often said that I was blessed to be taught by him and later, to befriend him. This statement is all the more poignant today.
I will never forget the time we spent together. Whether we were discussing nutrition and health (mostly me asking questions and waiting with bated breath), current affairs, his adventures with his beloved wife Jan and their dog Willow, I was always taken aback by his humble, kind, giving nature and his sense of humour.
Dr. David Smallbone was in every sense a gentleman and a personal hero of mine. There is no set of words that I can use that will pay homage to the great man, doctor and friend.
The team at Pillar Healthcare is heartbroken. Dr. Smallbone will never, ever be forgotten. Dr. Smallbone will be laid to rest this Friday, the 7th of April. The service on Friday is at 2 p.m. in Mount Jerome Crematorium, Harold’s Cross, Dublin. The family requests no flowers, and that donations in lieu be made to the Greyhound Rescue Association of Ireland (grai.ie)
Others who have met and appreciated the late Dr Smallbone may send messages of sympathy to email@example.com, and we will pass those messages on to the family.
